Aka Lyman's bodyboarding story began at a time when bodyboarding was seeing a second generation of professionals settling into prominent roles amidst a surge of bodyboard print publications. Aka went from being a North Shore grom to one of the best up and comers, to one of the best drop-knee riders in the world in what seemed like a very short time. Tall, lanky, stylish and freakishly talented, Aka was the guy that everyone wanted to shoot, that everyone wanted to surf with, that everyone wanted to surf like. Like all riders of that generation, the sponsorship card began with Morey and moved on from there, Toobs, LMNOP, Toys, and finally today...Triad.
Aka brought all of his years of board design and experience to the table when constructing the DK friendly "Shovel Nose" model, featuring slightly parallel rails, flat bottom, and flat deck. It is a dk minimalist dream. "I really liked how predictable and fast flat bottom boards were, and the changes to the template just came over time as I wanted to keep seeing what this would do or that would do and I feel really good about how this current design performs." In short, the board is fast, stable, and responsive. The 1.8 LB Kinetic PP core is super-charged w/ 2 stringers and Tension Tech and the topped off with a subtle nose kick and flat bottom to complete this DK masterpiece.
The Aka Lyman story continues today with his silky smooth performances at Sandys and other breaks around Oahu. Triad is stoked that he decided to hang his hat with Triad and make these "Aka approved" sleds for everyone to enjoy.
